THEATRE GUILD VALDOSTA

The Guild is in its celebratory Encore Season, featuring repeats of four major productions from the theater group’s first decade. Audiences from the last season’s shows voted for the plays they wanted to see again and, for the
2002-03 season, the Guild delivers.
Times: Guild performances traditionally start 8 p.m. for two sets of Thursday through Saturday shows, with a 2:30 p.m. Sunday matinee for each show. Thursday performances usually offer an optional, advanced reservations dinner-theater setting, at 6:30 p.m., for an additional price. Children’s performances traditionally are offered at different times.

GUILD SCHEDULE
The Odd Couple: playwright Neil Simon, Feb. 6-9, Feb. 13-15.
Oscar Madison and Felix Unger are together again.
Children’s Spring Performance: March 21-23.
Arsenic And Old Lace: playwright Joseph Kesselring, May 8-11, May 15-17. Classic comedy of two older women and a set of mysteriously disappearing boarders.

WILD ADVENTURES THEME PARK
In addition to hundreds of rides, amusements and animals, the park also regularly features bigname music concerts and other events throughout the year. Times and days vary for each event and concert. Most oncerts
are located on the park’s outdoor stage, with festival and reserved seating available. Cost: Concerts and events are usually included in the park’s regular admission price: $29.95 (plus tax), adults; $23.95 (plus
tax), seniors (ages 55-up), juniors (ages 3-9); free, children under 3; reserved seating available for an additional cost. More information: 559-1330.
THEATRE CHORAL GUILD
Valdosta Choral Guild is composed of people who enjoy singing in the region. The Guild presents an average of two concerts annually — one in late fall and one during the spring. More information, call 794-2155.

Church, 100 E. Park Ave. Guild is scheduled to perform composer John Rutter’s “Gloria,” choruses from “The Messiah,” etc.

VALDOSTA SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

The VSO presents its 13th season of concerts as well as celebrates the 10th season with its music director and conductor James Plondke.
Times: All concerts are 8 p.m. Saturdays, except where noted.
Location: Whitehead Auditorium, Valdosta State University Fine Arts Building, corner of Oak and Brookwood.

LVAC ART EXHIBITS
Lowndes/Valdosta Arts Commission has several exhibits, from local and regional artists monthly.
Times: Each show opens with a 5-7 p.m. Monday reception on the opening date.
Gallery hours: 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays; 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Fridays; 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturdays; 1:30-3:30 p.m. Sundays.
Location: Lowndes/Valdosta Arts Center, 1204 N. Patterson St.
Cost: Receptions and exhibits are free to the public.

VSU MUSIC DEPARTMENT

Valdosta State Music Department has numerous recitals, concerts and events planned during the next several months. The majority are held within the VSU Fine Arts Building, though some are located in other areas.

LVAC PRESENTER SERIES

Lowndes/Valdosta Arts Commission has scheduled four shows featuring performers from national touring companies for its 2002-03 Presenter Series season.
Times: 8 p.m. for all shows, plus a 6:30 p.m. optional, advanced-reservations dinner prior to each show.
Location: Mathis City Auditorium, 2311 Williams St., with pre-show dinners served in the auditoriums multi-purpose room.
Tickets: $30 per show; $50 for dinner and show; $95 season tickets (does not include pre-show dinners).

Radio Days!: Tuesday, Jan. 21. A story wrapped around the golden era of radio, featuring songs such as “Moonlight In Vermont” “Dream,” “The Trolley Song,” etc.
Porgy & Bess: George and Ira Gershwin, Tuesday, March 4. A musical masterpiece, featuring songs like “Summertime,” “It Ain’t Necessarily So,” “I Got Plenty of Nuttin’” etc.

Valdosta State University Theatre Department presents several shows in the 2002-03 season.
Times: Most performances begin at 7:30 p.m. and run a week with a 3 p.m. Sunday matinee, except where otherwise noted.

Schoolhouse Rock LIVE! JR. (annual children’s production): 10:30 a.m. Feb. 8, March 1; 7:30 p.m., Feb. 7 and 28. Musical numbers based on the educational cartoon shorts of the 1970s. Fun for kids and adults.
The Laramie Project: playwright Moises Kaufman, Feb. 20-26. A dramatization of the brutal 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard, a gay University of Wyoming student.
Picasso at the Lapin Agile: playwright Steve Martin, March 20-26. An imaginary, comic meeting between Picasso and Albert Einstein as young men.
Children of Eden: lyricist/composer Stephen Schwartz, April 24-30. A musical
based on The Bible’s Book of Genesis. Tickets: $10, adults; $8, senior citizens; $6, child, non-VSU student; $6, group; free, VSU student with ID.
VSU ART EXHIBITS

Valdosta State University Art Department presents several art exhibits during the 2002-03 season. The majority of the exhibits opening dates are public receptions, which are generally 7-8:30 p.m. Mondays, except where noted.

VSU EXHIBIT SCHEDULE

Valdosta National 2003, Jan. 21-Feb. 16, with a reception, 7-8:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 21. The second year of VSU’s expanded exhibit which invites artists from across the nation to enter for a juried show.
VSU Student Competition, Feb. 24-March 9. VSU art students compete for gallery space in a juried show of their best work. Ronald M. Zaccari — Sculpture, March 17-April 8. VSU’s president displays his sculptures.
